Prostheses and Orthopaedic Appliances
The full cost of purchase, adjustment, replacement or repair on the written request of a physician specializing in orthopaedics, physiatrics, neurology, rheumatology or neurosurgery.
When no longer in use by the recipient due to death or a change in physical condition, the apparatus must be returned to the establishment or laboratory which had supplied it.
Quebec has a Post-Mastectomy Breast Form Program available to all residents who have undergone a mastectomy
-
the plan reimburses up to $200 per breast on the purchase price of a breast form
-
every year the patient is entitled to an allowance of $200 per breast to cover the replacement cost of the breast form(s)
-
temporary post-operative breast forms are not covered
Quebec residents with a permanent colostomy, ileostomy or ileal conduit receives an allowance of $600 a year per ostomy to cover part of the cost of buying or replacing ostomy appliances and accessories. Social aid recipients are covered for the entire yearly cost.
- beneficiaries are entitled to reimbursement of the purchase or replacement price of an ocular prosthesis every five years. The maximum amount reimbursed is set a $585 for prosthesis made to measure by an authorized ocularist and $225 for an assembly line prosthesis.
- there is also an annual allowance of $25 for the upkeep and repair of each ocular prosthesis supplied
- income security recipients, the Regie will pay the total cost of the prosthesis
Hearing Aids
The following are eligible for this coverage:
-
persons who have a hearing loss in their better ear of at least 35 decibels
-
persons who have a hearing loss of at least 25 decibels in one ear and who are registered in a course of study leading to a degree, certificate or attestation recognized by the Minister of Education or the Minister of Higher Education and Science
-
persons between 12 and 28 years of age who have a hearing loss of at least 25 decibels in one ear;
-
children under 12 years of age who have a hearing disability that could jeopardize their speech and language development
-
persons who are hearing disabled and have other functional limitations which jeopardize their educational or professional integration
The plan covers the cost of buying, adjusting, repairing or replacing one hearing aid per ear; the purchase price of moulds (one per year for each ear), harnesses, cases and other accessories (tubes, cords, etc.), as well as the cost of the first 2 batteries. Social aid recipients also receive a monthly battery allowance.
The plan pays for a new hearing aid where:
-
the hearing aid is no longer effective because of a change in the beneficiary's hearing caused by the condition of the ear or the beneficiary's physical condition;
-
the person with hearing disability can no longer make his/her hearing aid work because of a change in the person's physical condition
-
the hearing aid deteriorated prematurely because of excess perspiration acidity, excess toxic vapour or excess pollution cause by dust
-
the hearing aid deteriorated prematurely because of an accidental break
-
the cost of repairing the hearing aid is estimated at over 70% of its original purchase price
-
the hearing aid no longer works in normal conditions and the beneficiary has had it for at least 6 years
-
the cost of repairing it is estimated at over 60% of its original purchase price and the beneficiary has had it for at least 6 years
